Top 6 video game soundtracks

Soundtracks in video games are really underrated. A video game with a good soundtrack can make a game better and amplify experience of the moment. Whether you are making a life altering decision in Life is Strange or just making it to the next castle in Super Mario the music plays a vital role in your experience. I love a lot of video game music but I narrowed it down to my top 6 favorite soundtracks. (Everyone does 5) I didn’t include more than 1 game per series.

6. Devil May Cry 3

Devil May Cry 3 feature a mostly metal soundtrack, normally don’t like this kind of music but something about pairing it with fast paced yet combo technical gameplay really struck out to me. I feel the music really made this from a good game to a great game, from the boss battles with Vergil to taking down hordes of demons it really fits. What I like particularly is during the dialogue before a boss battle the music starts slow but it escalates when the battle starts.

5. Fire Emblem Awakening

Fire Emblem Awakening was a game that I was pleasantly surprised with. The soundtrack was both relaxing and tense depending on the moment. Most songs had an ablazed version of it when characters enter battle that had a transition between entering and leaving battle. The song “Don’t speak her name” is my favorite because it adds another level of depth to a certain chapter that really elevated the experience.

4. Viewtiful Joe

Viewtiful Joe is probably my favorite game of all time and the soundtrack played a big part in this. The music was mostly upbeat to compliment the games humor but with a tense twist during one of the difficult boss battles. The music really added an extra kick to the really flashy gameplay and always made you feel like a “hero”.

3. Sonic Adventure 2

Sonic games are known for having great soundtracks and this one is by far my favorite. This soundtrack has something for everyone and does each style of music well. You can get hip hop bars from Knuckle’s themes, smooth and catchy themes of Rouge, or wanted to be edgy listen to Shadow’s theme songs. If you have spotify the soundtrack has been uploaded there.

2. Kingdom Hearts 2

Kingdom Hearts 2 is has great gameplay with a better soundtrack to match. Kingdom Hearts 2 caught me at the title screen with “Dearly Beloved” and it only got better from there. There is only one other game that has a better quality soundtrack.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

This should be self explanatory but if it isn’t Ocarina of Time has arguably the best soundtrack in video game and is my personal favorite. Every song is well constructed and even listening to the songs today they withstand the test of time.
